Tremblant week-end
My first week-end in a tin top “Canadian Civic championship”

Not long ago I was racing in formula cars, but for the 2006 season I decided to get my feet wet in tin tops (sedan cars) for the first time. First stop Mont-Tremblant, one of the most challenging tracks in North America.

The week-end started on Friday morning with a practice session, I was well off the pace as I was trying to get a feel for the car and the difference in braking point and handling of the car as it’s a totally different car them my usual Formula 1600. I took the car beyond its limits on some points and spun so the times were not so great, 10 sec. behind the leaders….In the afternoon session, I improved my time to only 7 sec. behind the pole sitter, as I was getting used to the car’s characteristics and handling cues. On Saturday’s qualifying I improved to only 5 sec. off the pole, during the first race just following the qualifying session I came to be 2.6 sec. slower then the pole sitter, I came from the 11th position to finished the race in 9th place.

Due to scheduling change, I missed the Sunday’s morning qualifying session, but my luck would have it, the grid would be determined by combined times of both Saturday and Sunday qualifying sessions, so I started from the 10 spot, on corner one I passed a car ahead of me and I was right on track to take the 8th but a front running competitor wend off course and then back on to the track with him came the sand and grass making the track surface very slippery and I wend into a tail spin, but I managed to keep the car off the wall and continued, but I lost time and 2 positions. After couple of laps an accident brought up the yellow flag and the safety car, the field bunched up again, I managed to over take one car and improve my position and final standing in the case for the Rookie of the year.

Two 9th places and 2.6 sec. off the pole sitters time, I say all and all not a bad 1st week-end, but with lots of room to improve..See the pix here (click here) next stop Canadian Grand Prix June 23rd/25th
